A group of approximately 80 men met in the community
house, Dorrance and Cedar Streets, on the evening of October
10, 1927, to consider organizing the Bristol Consolidated Fire
Company.  The meeting was called to order by Burgess Clifford
Anderson, who outlined the purpose and objectivess of the
gatheringas taking over the fire protection of Bristol Borough.  
Serrill Detlefson was selected as secretary of the meeting.
The company was approved by borough council December 29, 1927, in accordance with a
borough ordinance which had been enacted by borough council January 10, 1927.  The
department took over fire protection in Bristol Borough on January 1, 1928, with
headquarters in the Bristol Municipal Building.  The fire department was fully equipped with
Ahrens-Fox apparatus - two chemical trucks, one 750-gallon
pumper, one 1000-gallon pumper, a ladder truck with 55-foot
extension ladders and a Buick coupe for the fire chief.  All of the
equipment was donated by Joseph R. Grundy who also gave to
the borough the municipal building in which the department is
housed.
The company met on January 31, 1928, at which time it was
agreed to change the name from Bristol Consolidated Fire Company to the Consolidated
Fire Department of Bristol, PA.  A constitution and by-laws were adopted and the following
elected as permanent officers:  President, Clifford Anderson; vice president, H.J. Strack;
secretary, Serrill Detlefson; treasurer, William Fine; trustees, John Roberts, Jr., Albert
Loechner, and Anthony Russo.  James McGee was selected as chief of the department with
George Buckley as first deputy chief and Fred Kenyon as second deputy chief.  James
McGee, chief of the department since its organization, died July 23, 1935 and Clifford
Hagerman was advanced to chief.
